Hey Jbv
Just got back brrr bloody cold outside. Okay so just went went back and re read the post re unetbootin, for some reason I thought there was something special you had stripped. Then remembered Nope too much reading me thinks that night. Anyway have just done the standard unetbootin and will go from there.

Easy to check the Video side of things as I can't find the bloody speakers there hidden somewhere else  Hilarious stuff has been shoved/hidden everywhere.
Okay the plan is to install as is see what I get and then patch if necessary.
Clean machine to begin with is best and that's what I have. I so want to swear right now .....I thought my work day was over shit!!!
Can't wait till tomorrow.
Be back later
Cheers

Hi Jbv
I'm onto this today all setup ready to rock N roll. Will post back my results.
Starting out with fresh 32GB USB stick formatted to EXT3 8 GB swap was EXT4 and swap was already there but my server seems to have issues with EXT4 it's a very picky little fella.
This is the main reason I needed to setup this machine as stated in previous post.
So won't do anything on HP Proliant-MicroServer till it's up and running on this system.
when this is finalised can you move it into the XBMC or where you think it should be.

And away we go
Cheers

UPDATE: Post in progress! Okay so all is done up to reboot and success so onto installing the next part and this is where it may get tricky...I will then split this document to just reflect the XBMC section for How To install XBMC. Right now this one covers
Downloading, Installing, Updating, Nvidia Video driver installation, Installing XBMC too much for one document.

Jbv has already done some fabulous Docs & How-Tos so I will incorporate those here and add in anything extra I do.
Links to explain exactly what these programs are have been included. These are only for reference

When it's final I will trim out the comments I have made etc and just have a pure document.

1. Download the FoxyRoxyLinux viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10

Image
2a. Prepare a USB stick formatted to
EXT3
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext3.
I'm using a 32GB with 8Gbs Swap Space http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/10678
2b. I used the application Gparted http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ *

Image

3a. Download and install Unetbootin
3c. Windows: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=110&p=114#p114
3d. Linux: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=133
4. 3b. If using Linux OSEnsure the USB stick is mounted
before going to step 5.

Image

5. Run the Unetbootin application for your OS as per
Step 3
to install FoxyRoxy_DevRel_02.iso
to your USB stick http://foxyroxylinux.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10
6. Ensure your Bios can boot from USB
Be very careful when entering your Bios. (more detail will go in here)
7. Reboot and select your USB stick to boot from
8. If all is successful you FoxyRoxy Login will Appear
9. Login: root [enter]1
10. Password: roxy [enter]
11. Load up Firefox and do automatic update: Successful

Image

12. I'm going to do the 95-Create script now before I install anything else ***
13a. Now to see what it's saved using 95-load script ***
13b. Goto the snapshot located under /tmp/sqf-snap for editing/playing
14. Once you have it setup the way you like use 95-save script ***
15. Install the NVidia viewtopic.php?f=10&t=154
16a. Reboot - Please wait this takes time!
16b. Login: root Password: roxy
16c. Did not boot to desktop please use startx enter.
17. Check to see if it has installed correctly as per instructions in Step 15

Image

Image

18. You can now run the 03-nvidiapatch script.
As per instructions in Step 15
Please note: This takes around 3-5 minutes before reboot occurs.
19. After login in booted to the Desktop.
20. Locate the 02libGLpatch.sh right click permissions tick
Image

21. Patch 02-FoxyDesktop.squashfs open a console/terminal screen and type:
source /live/image/live/02libGLpatch.sh <enter>
Double clicking the file after changing permissions works too.
22. Reboot
23. Finally now to install XBMC
24. Okay so I'm going to install a special build package here for now loaded into the Live Directory
UPDATE:
I will be working on the full package again today. Below requires editing:!!
To do this, just edit /etc/apt/sources.list
Change the last line so that it is as shown below, then save it.
Code: Select all
deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org/ squeeze main
Open a terminal/console window and refresh the apt/dpkg database with apt-get update
After xbmc has finished installing, it will appear in the [TaskBar Menu] --> [Sound & Video]

25. To be added
26. To be added
27. To be added
28. Start XBMC Control Panel/Sound & Video/XBMC

Congratulations: XBMC will now load.

29a. Back to Step 12
29b. Locate in Scripts what you want to do: Double Click on the Script to activate.
95-create = creates the "save file" 95-snap.squashfs using /live/cow
95-delete = deletes the "save file" from usb/disk
95-refresh = loads 95-snap, copies current /live/cow then saves it
95-load = Loads 95-snap.squashfs so that you can "tweak/clean" it
95-save = Saves 95-snap.squashfs after "tweaking/cleaning"

Don't think I have forgotten anything have Fun

Cheers 8-)

* [I chose EXT3 as this suits my setup.
You can use FAT32
Most USBs are already formatted to FAT32 http://www.pcmech.com/article/fat32-vs- ... ck-how-to/
If you want to use NTSC] http://www.foxyroxylinux.com/viewtopic. ... t=157#p309
**[If you are wanting to run XBMC http://xbmc.org/about/
I would use at least 4 GBs and up depending on your
library and what add-ons you wish to include.
How much Swap space is up to you and memory your system has.
It is not necessary but can achieve faster results.]

I'm back so now onto the next step
Crap just remember I need to find those speakers I'll be back zzz
Okay I'm back but sadly for me I'm getting sicker by the hour thanks to my son passing his lurgy onto me.
Anyway I'm going to go for as long as I can. Cough cough sneeze splutter.........
UPDATE Okay have speakers so first to ensure they are working before moving on to the next steps.
Okay so after doing a 95-refresh and rebooted now it doesn't see the GLX drivers are installed. Even though they are showing. Weird.
Back to the drawing board as I stuffed around with it and even after reinstalling from the backups etc no good.
Not such a bad thing.
I will use my install notes to make sure they work! 8-)
UPDATE Think I know where I stuffed up. Forgot to 95-save after the 95-refresh bummer.
It's supposed to do this with 95-refresh so I will investigate further.

Installing drivers/XBMC and so on. If you want to watch my progress.
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=154&p=325#p325 Pretty much finished now.
Cheers

Okay so If I'm going to get this to work based on previous research by Jbv & myself.
If we are to load the XBMC from the repository it will probably trash the new injection of drivers.
1. Try this now and see exactly what it does with the new injected Nvidia drivers.
2. Start fresh install XBMC then install the new inection of GLX drivers.
We know it can be stripped down and still work but we also need to know
exactly what can and can't be chucked. Hence time to test on as many machines as possible.
I do need unfortunately at this time ATI GLX too but now I have my head kinda around how FoxyRoxyLinux works
I can do this as it's a personal requirement only. Shitty ATI or maybe I'll just pull the card and be done with it.
Anyway that's for later.

Once we have XBMC & NVIDIA GLX working as one neither can be removed ideally an injection for XBMC (special build strip out what isn't needed)
A lot of work has already been done on this by Jbv & Saintless it's a work in progress.

Only way to try to make sure all of it work is to go back to the beginning.

Cheers
