How to mount and auto-mount CD/DVD

Postby saintless » Fri Sep 07, 2012 6:58 pm

Till we have auto-mount on insertion option here is what we have to do to have auto-mount CD/DVD on boot:

1. Create folder /media/cdrom
2. Add in /etc/fstab this line:
Code: Select all
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto ro,auto,user,exec 0 0

What these (auto,user,exec...) options mean and more options you can find here.

Here is an example of /etc/fstab:
Code: Select all
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
# <file system> <mount point>   <type>  <options>       <dump>  <pass>

aufs / aufs rw 0 0
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nosuid,nodev 0 0
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto ro,auto,user,exec 0 0

3. Save the changes with 95-create (or 95-refresh script if you have already 95-snap file). No need to do this if you use live-rw save file.
4. Reboot the computer.

After reboot you will have your CD/DVD auto-mounted in /media/cdrom.

To unmount it just click with right mouse button on /media/cdrom and choose unmount.

To mount CD/DVD manualy use the mount right mouse button click option in /media/cdrom or this command:
Code: Select all
mount /dev/cdrom

This will mount your CD/DVD in /media/cdrom

The corresponding unmount command is:
Code: Select all
umount /dev/cdrom

Code: Select all
umount /media/cdrom
